WHAT IS THE INTERNATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE (IECC) PLAN REVIEW AND INSPECTION?
Simply put, the IECC plan review and inspection involves an assessment of construction plans to ensure compliance with the energy efficiency standards outlined in the IECC. The IECC is a model energy code developed by the International Code Council that provides minimum requirements for the design and construction of energy-efficient buildings. These requirements are designed to be environmentally friendly by reducing energy consumption and lowering greenhouse gas emissions while promoting sustainable building practices.
What Happens during the IECC Plan Review?
During an IECC plan review, a member of A&D inspections will evaluate construction plans to verify that they incorporate the specific requirements of IECC. This includes looking at insulation, fenestration (windows and doors), HVAC systems, lighting, and renewable energy systems.
When Does the IECC Plan Review Take Place?
Typically, IECC plan reviews are conducted as part of the building permit application process. Compliance with the IECC may be a prerequisite for obtaining building permits from local authorities. It’s important to note that each municipality has adopted its own specific International Energy Conservation Code. A & D Inspections has provided a list of cities and their adopted energy code (February 2024) Please be aware that cities adopt energy codes periodically.
