Owner James Southerland

Our journey started in a small classroom at Local 551 Carpenters Union in Houston, Texas in 2003. After obtaining an ICC Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner certification, James used his expertise to investigate accessibility violations for the City of Houston, Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities. He continued his work consulting with almost every department in the City of Houston until retirement in 2008.

James continued consulting, reviewing plans, and inspections in the private commercial construction industry. He has been involved on all sides of the accessibility industry. Accessibility has been a passion for James, not only has he worked in the industry but lives with a neuromuscular disability – Charcot-Marie Tooth disease. This gives him an advantage, being on both sides of the spectrum. He understands the owner’s perspective and people with disabilities.

In 2004 James became IECC certified to provide Code plan reviews and site inspections. He has seen many changes in the last twenty years. A & D Inspections has sponsored numerous IECC classes and webinars.

The A & D Inspection team has grown over the past few years to 5 consultants. Each consultant is certified / licensed in accessibility. Our consultants have a minimum of two years of accessibility education and several years of experience in the construction field. Each of our consultants brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.
